(Excerpts from e-mail sent on 11/20/06)

It was a good week here at the lodge.  The photos from last week reappeared (The Hand of God.  There's no other explaination), so I sent a bunch to you in an e-mail you'll probably get in about 24 hours.  Speaking of slow mail... I got two postcards and a package last week!!  Thanks so much for the Lego advent calender!!  I'm way excited for December now, thanks.  Although, when I translated your letter about giving the legos to the children here my companion said, roughly, "Yeah, right. All they do is walk the streets and make fun of us."  He's got a point.  They like to yell at us to speak a language.  and by "us" I mean "any missionary, American or Brazilian" and by "a language" I mean "any language, not necessarily English."  The fact that, for example, Elder Fernandes doesn't speak German doesn't keep them from asking.  But maybe I'll humble myself and be giving.  Because nothing says Christmas Spirit like giving.  And walking around the desert in a shirt and tie getting sunburned.

This week hasn't been that exciting.  It's been good, though.   I'm still happy and healthy, although I'm kind of regretting the fact that I didn't take a picture of the blister on my foot last week.  It didn't hurt, so I was pretty happy about that.  But I think that's the first even minor health issue that I've had, knock on wood.  Minus the fact that I got a hair cut last week, and when I looked in the mirror afterwards I realized that my hair is currently blonde.  But I think it compliments my crazy farmer's tan relatively well.

I got two postcards last week and they were really awesome.  I got myself a photo album to collect them, so thanks a bunch.  Ohh, and I've got an idea for more presents for me.  Go through all the closets in the house and grab old ties, that no one will wear again, and ship them down here to your son.  Sometimes it likes to rain really hard, and nice ties don't like the rain all that much.  Anyway, if no one else is going to wear them, they don't weigh a lot, and you can use ties instead of packing peanuts.

Tell the kids in your seminary class that it's all about desire: Thais was baptized two weeks ago, and is up to Alma in the O Livro De Mórmon.  And I think she understands it better than I do; she was talking about King Noah and his priests and everything.  Just because she has the desire to learn.  I hope the kids in your class realize what a privledge they have right now to study the scriptures.  The majority of Brazilian missionaries here are converts and the only member in their families, and they all comment on how much they wish they could have had the opportunities to study that we have as members of the Church now.

Anyway, that's all from the South for now.  Thanks for everything, and if there's anything I can help with, let me know!

com amor,
Eric

Hey, isn't it almost Thanksgiving?  We don't celebrate it in Brazil, I guess.  anyway, Happy Thanksgiving!
